Thanks to you, we have reached our goal!!!!

Last spring, we discovered that our sinking bathrooms had literally fallen off the building. With no foundation, they were only propped up by artificial supports--at best are a temporary band-aid solution. The need was urgent! So in summer 2007, we underwent a much-needed change to make our building safer and more accessible. We needed to completely renovate our crumbling restrooms, creating brand new wheelchair accessible bathrooms.

Our challenge as a community was to raise $150,000 over the summer in order to complete the renovation and reopen our after school programs to over 70 young people in the fall! We received a generous grant from the Amelia Peabody Foundation that included $25,000 to get us started and an additional $25,000 as a challenge grant that we had to match. With your support, our friends and supporters, we were able to match the grant from Amelia Peabody Foundation!!

Together, with the support of many community members, we reached our goal to make our community center safer and more accessible to the thousands of community members that come through our doors each year.

Thanks to everyone who supported Spontaneous, one of the few spaces in Boston where people come together across lines of race, class, age and beliefs to create community and celebrate life. From toddlers to teens to adults, Spontaneous is a space to drum, dance, and dream. It is a place to make art and make change. It is a place where we can create the world that we want our children to grow up in. It is home to our community.

This project was the first phase of our long-term master plan to rebuild our historic home into a state of the art community center that will be fully accessible to the community for generations to come. To become a capital campaign sponsor and contribute to the next stage of the project, building a wheelchair accessible ramp to the building, contact Executive Director Jen Kiok at 617-524-6373 x2
